I work primarily with organic shapes, like clothing, allot of the time an unwrapped cloth you don't want all the bits separated from the other parts but you do want a delineation of the areas so when your working in what ever program to texture, like Photoshop, you have the areas clearly marked with color to tell you what is a cuff, a sleeve, a bodice and so forth and so on. Currently I have not found a way to assign Color ID's or surface areas to the mesh. If there is a way please instruct, if not can we please have this added to the To Do list?
Thank you, Richard

Hi Richard,
There is no way to do that for now.
But please make sure I understand well:
1. Do you want to assign *new* colors to specific islands or materials or group or objects ? 2. Do you want theses colors be visibles in the viewport only or/and when exporting tiff stamps ?
Best

Hi Remi,
I'd love to be able to assign colors to the surface groups (Actually don't see a way to create those in Unfold right now either), see them in the viewport and export them as color id's for use in other programs when texturing. Actually surprised that such a robust program like Unfold didn't offer this already!

Sorry for being so picky with my question but this requires some serious work so I want o be sure to do exactly what you need...
I understood, that you want these color be visible directly in the viewport.
When you say "export", you mean exported in a bitmap, or exported in the mesh file (OBJ / FBX) ?
Also, what do you mean by "surface groups": - OBJ polygon groups, or - Material polygon groups, or - Objects, or - Smoothing groups, or
or something else ?
All the best and thanks for your help!

Hi,
OK,
Surface Groups would be the groups that show up in another app that one can assign various diffuse colors and or maps to. So say you have a pair of pants you modeled, you want the belt loops to have their own group, the wasteband to have it's own, the cuffs their own, the pants of course, their own. Most UV programs I've used in the past all have ways to set those up within the program. Once the surfaces are set up then one can generally set up a diffuse color for each group and that info is embedded within the OBJ upon export so you have an automatic color ID set up and if you have the MAP export set up to "see" the assigned colors then the map (jpg, png, bmp, psd, ...) will be exported with those colors assigned to them. Hope that helps you understand my request better!
