Hi Thomass,
By "overlapping groups" I assume you are talking about groups that contains stacked islands.
I am not sure to understand well your problem. But in order the staking group system works well, all islands that are grouped and stacked in a same group must be stacked perfectly (all island must be located exactly at the same coordinates). If you respect this, spacing is working perfectly with stacked elements.
To create a staked group simply select one island of the same family and in the "Island Groups" panel click on "Stack". The islands will be stacked and a stacked group will be created.
I think the better solution would be that you send us the log file and the OBJ file. (you can use wetransfer and send to remi.arquier@unfold3d.com)
Best regards

Hello, I'm also having this problem in RizomUV.2018.0. I have several groups that are marked as stacked but when I pack the UVs it places the groups on top of the non-grouped UVs. Thanks Attachments:

Thanks for your reply, do you know when that will be fixed? I'm currently dead in the water.

Just a remark: it looks like all your "groups" are "stack". Are you sure that a simple "group" (Ctrl-G) would not be enough ?

Would that allow me to pack the tile without repacking the groups themselves?

Absolutely, groups are repacked only if "Pack All" is enabled. otherwise they don't.

I uploaded 2018.0.68. It solves the problems when using group stack with overlapped elements that do not match exactly.

I converted the groups from stacked to normal and they still overlap, I even removed and recreated the groups. I should also note that I'm using the Mac version so the highest I can got is 2018.0.67

This is still broken for me i still get overlaps on stacked shells seems to be a problem if i have edited them in an external program using fbx with unfold bridge in 3dsmax, makes the packing useless to our studio, any ideas why this is happening? Thanks.
