The principals for optimal lightmap layout differ with standard unwrapping logic/packing. BOX UNWRAP Often this is the most reliable method of unwrapping the light-maps because most environment models are block shapes that are combined or repeated to create a structure. A contiguous mesh ( everything connected with no separate elements ) is often very helpful way of building to allow more efficient lightmap unwraps because you can just fold out the majority of the design connected together. Src: docs.unrealengine.com/latest/INT/Engine/Content/Types/StaticMeshes/LightmapUnwrapping/Is there a way to unfold using a box method? Is there a way to automatically weld contiguous edges, creating a flatten and connected surface? Regards Tahir

Hi Tahir
There is no way to do box packing automatically for now. That should be added in future release.
I move this in the Feature request.
I don't understand what you mean "by automatically weld contiguous edges, creating a flatten and connected surface". Maybe a picture would help.
Thanks for the useful link.

Tahir
On the development version wich is downloadable on that forum, there is a new "Box Tool" in the Auto Seams panel. There is no unwrap box tool for now but it is a good start I think.
thanks
