It would be useful to save u3d settings that were used for working on exported assets, either to be important for another asset or node license or to reload with an exported/saved asset from u3d.
Ability to save/load u3d settings like packing settings, udim tile setup, checker texture scale, visibility/shading and view settings(3d/uv/both viewports and current camera setting, position/rotation/pivot for both). If there was option to save u3d file when saving that store these settings, it could share file name of exported mesh, then look for u3d setting file when file load uv used. Prompt load associated u3d settings file? With checkbox for remember choice by user(always or never depending on prompt button user clicked, can disable I preferences)

Did you try to save OBJ file and reload with "Load UV" ? Many properties are saved in OBJ file. (not all)

(not all) I have not checked in a while, I just remember either obj or fbx loaded in did not restore properties like pack margin/padding or viewports camera position. Is only obj supporting such feature? Interesting that u3d adds that!

It is correct that viewport camera are not saved. But margin and spacing are saved.
