Currently the way you navigate is that the camera is locked to a fixed pivot. To set a new pivot you have to hover over a selection and press 'F' (This sometimes fails to center a selection. Bug?). This seems to be cumbersome the more I work with complex shapes. Can we get a toggleable feature that allows the current cursor position to be the pivot when you hold down ALT and click to rotate, zoom or pan. Cinema 4D has his as their navigation and it allows you to easily get into and arround tight spaces.

Hi FruehBird
This is not exactly a bug, this is because when you press "F" key, the focus goes to the gravity center of the hit primitive. When the primitive is to much big, it becomes annoying. This should be solved.
I see what you mean. That would be a nice feature. I only wonder which key could we use for switching to that "orbit from current position mode" ? Alt key is already used for the Orbit in the Unfold3D mouse preset. We need to find the correct key, or a correct key combination for that.

I understood now the difference.
I will change this to follow the behavior you described.
Thanks

It'd also be nice if there was a way to snap the view/pivot to selection, sometimes I might have some uvs but hard to find it in a large mesh file(millions of triangles containing several rooms from scan data). At the moment I will switch on wireframe mode hope that I Can see the blue highlight if it's not too small. A similar feature would be useful for jumping to the opposing edge(shared edge?) in uv view(which is a dimmed blue)

Since the 0.10.41 a press to 'F' key center the view on current selection (in UV space and 3D space also)
Alt-F center the view in the primitive center which is under the mouse pointer
Is it answering to your need?

This is done in 2018.0.141. Orbit with a rotation center under the mouse pointer is now the default. Zooming is also improved with autofocusing system
