I can not select edges, why? [SOLVED]

OK, not only selecting edges doesn't work by simply clicking... something else happened.

I tried unpacking a part of the mesh not the whole thing and I think it's safe to say it's stuck... I'm at minute 346!!! and 0% unfold.

I tried using edge loop on this mesh I've been working for more then two hours last night...

I'm running the EVALUATION version 2018.0.152.

So please answer:

1. How I can save the work I did last night? Is there a way??

2. What can I do to select edges?

3. Why did the app stopped responding when I can still see the minute count? Shouldn't those stop counting up if the app is stuck? This is wasting our time I hope you realize that!

Even so I quite like the program, it has some nice features and would like to use it but you need to answer those points above otherwise it's just a big waste of time.
