Is there a manual available yet?
I am hoping to unwrap photogrammetry files using the latest beta release.
I need the manual to see how to unfold highly dense triangulated models given that it is possible. So far the toolset for this process appears quite limited being aimed more at low resolution quad meshes.
There doesn't appear to be a method for selecting faces? Enabling island creation.
Would it be true to say that I should set face/material assignments in Maya first before saving to Unfold?
Thank you PB

We did a video for AUTOSEAMS, that you should have received by email (there is 4 videos in total for the beta program). Did you have a look at it ? I am not at office until Monday, I will come back to you with appropriate links. Many thanks !

Hi there,
Yes, I have watched all of the provided videos.
Unless I missed something there is no method for selecting faces and breaking them out into shells. Because my source is photogrammetry I have dense triangular mesh for which edge selection would be tedious.
I will look through the videos again to see if I missed something.

Hi Polarbear,
You can extract polygons and create new islands from the selection using the following steps:
1. Go to polygon selection mode (press F4) 2. Select some polygons 3. Press 'C'
And its done you'll get as much as islands as necessary.
Please tell me if it works for you.
And yes, it is true that material assignment must be done outside Unfold3D (before or after UV creation).
Important question: Did you manage to use automatic edge selection tools (Hierarchical and Mosaic, people doing photogrametry seems to love them)

Hi Remi,
Thank you for the steps outline.
Yes I did make a couple of attempts using the Auto Edge selections tools but failed to get the results I was after. I couldn't arrive at the appropriate recipe that would create the number of islands that would produce a more efficient pack.
Sounds like I need to try again with Hierarchical and Mosaic specifically.
I certainly did get good results with my initial attempts. It is just that I am looking to create more islands for a more efficient pack. I am sure I can get better results once I understand better how to get them.

Hi Remi, Now that i have gone through the process just now of using Hierarchical and Mosaic I realised that yes i had tried it before. The result is the script and command log presenting during the unfold process after selection. How do I send the FBX to you as it is 13MB? Here is a link to the FBX in question: www.leapfrog.net.au/client/unfold3D/floorUnfold.fbx

Hi PB,
I am currently looking at your mesh. The difficult thing is that this mesh is heavy (400000 polys) and composed by only one island. So the cutline computations are long. I noticed also that there is several small handles but Unfold3D found them and cut them.
I will come back there once I have some results.

PB, I got this cut lines using "Mosaic" with cut force = 0.75 and with "Disto Control" enabled at 0.5. Then went to lunch, once I came back I got this: Then Unfolded by pressing 'U', then 30 seconds after I got this: The result seems good enough for you ?

PB, Here is a result with more cuts, and improved packing parameters (have a look at the Packing panel to see them in the picture below)

Remi,
Thank you for investing your time in the supplied file. In my attempts I wasn't using the Disto Control setting.
Both results look good to me. Particularly the second pack. I am making another attempt with your settings.

Fantastic ! Thank you for the pics !
Have a look at the "Layout panel", you'll find options to add some spacing between islands, that may be usefull for you.
